The Oviedo Police Department have been overjoyed to receive the $12,000 they required to purchase a new K9 member, from a generous anonymous donor.
When their previous beloved K9 member, Nero, developed an aggressive form of cancer aged just six, the Police team made the decision to have him put down to prevent any further suffering. After an emotional good-bye ceremony, they then made an appeal for donations towards the purchase of a replacement for Nero, who had left a “significant void” in the team.
Due to the Police training required – including sniffing out narcotics, missing children and adults as well as tracking criminal suspects – the cost of a new K9 would set the department back by $12,000, which they did not have available internally. However, it did not take long for an extremely generous anonymous donor to come forwards and single-handedly provide the entire sum required.
On top of this, local businesses including restaurants and shops clubbed together to provide an additional $3,000 for the Police Foundation, a not-for-profit organization which helps the Police Department financially when unexpected costs arise.
