STOKE-ON-TRENT, EN – A pregnant German Shepherd was found tied up and left for dead in the U.K. outside of Hanchurch Woods in Stoke. A good Samaritan found her and called the RSPCA to assist when they saw that she was very ill and unable to eat. The RSPCA took her in and when they began to treat her, they found that she was pregnant with three puppies. They decided to name her Fern and are now working with German Shepherd Dog Rescue to help her.

Fern was found to be calcium-deficient from her pregnancy, so they began treating her and have seen slow improvement. The RSPCA was appalled by her situation, but not surprised. They are hoping for dog licensing to be brought back, with an added fee for breeding.
In an amazing update released, however, it was reported that Fern actually give birth to eight puppies. Mom and pups are in a foster home and are all doing well. The RSPCA continues to investigate Fern’s case in the hopes of finding her owner and bringing them to justice. In the meantime, both organizations are working on finding homes for Fern and her pups.
