A petition to punish a man in Bulgaria that shot a dog and posed with him smiling as if he just collected a trophy, was just published to be signed.
He’s a man living in Zgorigrad – Vratsa, Bulgaria who warned his neighbors that if they kept on letting their dogs lose, he will kill them. And so he did and posted a picture with the dog’s body.
After the picture was published, it went viral in Bulgaria and people put pressure so the authorities investigate. They pressed charges against the man and he’s currently under investigation.
In 2008 The Animal Protection Law entered into force, which has been modified since then. Six months ago, there was a decree of the Minister of Internal Affairs in which 2 policemen were assigned in each regional department, specialized in investigate animal-related crimes. The establishment of an animal welfare police is important to help with the development of a more civic society.
Unfortunately, since 2011 less than 20% of all registered crimes have been solved. This is why there is a petition to put pressure on authorities to make sure the laws are respected and there is a proper punishment for what the man did.
If you want to sign the petition, follow this link. And if you want to know more about Bulgarian animal welfare laws, you can follow this one. Chapter One, Art. 6. forbids inhumane treatment to animals and Art. 7. (1.) defines it.
We hope there is justice for this dog and an example is set with this man that cruelty to animals should not be tolerated anywhere in the world.
