There is nothing quite as motivating as having a friend by your side to keep you pushing through a workout. However, relying on your human friends doesn’t always work out when they can bail on you some days or be unable to keep up. So why not bring a four-legged pal instead?
There are a number of dog breeds that are practically designed to keep you moving with their high energy levels and agility. Bring one of these furry exercise partners along with you to a work out next time and you will be sure to sweat like never before.
Here are seven dog breeds that will keep you active:
1. Border Collie
This energetic breed does not tire out easily. So if you don’t have cows or sheep for him to herd, going for a run with him would be the next best thing.
2. Belgian Malinois
Commonly used as a police dog, this breed will happily accompany you on a run outside or in the yard.
3. Dalmation
This breed was historically used as a “coach dog,” which required the dalmatian to run alongside a horse-drawn carriage for miles. The spotty dog will definitely be able to give you a run for your money.
4. DOBERMAN PINSCHER
The Doberman is an incredibly intelligent and high energy dog who loves spending time with its owner. Go for a run, swim, hike, or anything else that you want and the Doberman will be able to keep up.
5. GREYHOUND
As the fastest breed of dog, the greyhound will have no problem running by your side or out-running you. Although they make very sweet companion dogs, they are more than happy to join you outdoors.
6. American Staffordshire Terrier
With his athletic build and intelligence, this breed will thrive in an active environment. From agility training to tracking this dog makes for a great workout partner.
7. Vizsla
A great family dog that is very trainable and loves to go outdoors for a run or a day of hunting.

1. AKC
Your teaser photo had a German Shorthair, who I know from experience as a wonderful jogging coach. The Greyhound, however, is known as the “world’s fastest couch potato” for a reason. They’re great sprinters, but not very good at distance running…
