Dogs like to run, but some live for running. With Winter fleeting and Spring approaching, we’re going to take a look at a couple breeds that make fantastic running partners.
1. Rhodesian Ridgeback
The Rhodesian Ridgeback was bred for fighting lions in Africa while their master took aim with a gun (referred to as “baying”). Although, that’s probably not what you’re using them for, they’re very athletic and have a short coat suited to hotter climates, making them a great running buddy.
2. Weimaraner
Also lean and suited to warmer climates, the Weimaraner is a fantastic running companion and is suited to it with their thin body and light feet. They’ll have no trouble keeping up once they’re old enough and will love every moment spent doing so.
3. Huskies
Huskies are sled dogs, they don’t pull sleds with bikes, they’re pure running dogs. Huskies love to run, especially when there’s snow outside. If you live in a colder climate and need a running buddy, the Husky is your breed.
4. Dalmatian
Dalmatians are energetic things that are glad to run anywhere. Dalmatians used to run next to the original fire trucks, acting as the siren and horn. If they can keep up with horses, they can keep up with you.
5. Border Collies
Border Collies are astoundingly intelligent (often thought of as the most intelligent of all breeds), loyal dogs that were originally bred for herding. This makes them athletic and adaptable, a perfect running dog. Their coat allows them to run in almost any weather as well.
6. Labrador Retreiver
These are friendly, fairly fast and have no problem with running until your legs fall off. Labs are one of those dogs that are great at almost everything.
7. Vizsla
Vizslas are wonderfully suited to running, they’re nimble, fast and quite smart. They’re a very trainable dog, so people who want to run without a leash will find these breeds to be exactly what they’re looking for.
