HAYFORK, Calif.— Earlier this week, a couple returning to their devastated home in the aftermath of the Fork Complex fire were amazed to be reunited with their pet cat, who had incredulously survived the wildfire.
Jeff and Debi Brusatori were forced to evacuate their home as the fire crept closer and had attempted to bring their Calico tabby with them, but Ruthie Rosemary panicked and escaped out the car window. The Brusatoris had no choice but to leave her behind.
When the couple came back five days later, they were greeted by a familiar meow and Ruthie emerged from underneath the burned out truck where she had been hiding, miraculously unscathed except for a few singed whiskers.
Shasta-Trinity National Forest shared the happy news on Facebook, writing:
“Out of devastation comes a heartwarming story about a family pet thought to be lost to the flames of a Fork Complex fire.”
Both pet parents are overjoyed to be reunited with their cat, showing that despite their losses, they still have everything that really matters.
