The Lanai Cat Sanctuary, formerly known as the Lanai Animal Rescue Center, was founded in 2008 by Kathy Caroll to assist animals on the island of Lanai, one of the smallest of Hawaii. This place may not be new but knowing about a place like this is never old; especially if there are tons of great pictures of the place to look at.

They basically take all the homeless cats to the island to provide them a great place to live while –and if– they are waiting to be adopted. This way the cats are kept in one place and the native birds have more space to be without being hunted. All the cats are spayed and neutered which helps control the cat population. They are also vaccinated and microchipped.

They live in harmony and don’t fight. They are well cared for and clean. They even have natural cat litter boxes made out of their local palm trees.
The sanctuary consists in a 15,000 square foot outdoor enclosure, in which there are cubicles for sleeping, hiding pallets, pipes for playing, jungle gyms and of course, it’s full of trees for them to climb and nap on.
The cat sanctuary is supported exclusively on donations so if you wish to donate once or regularly, follow this link. Also you can contact them if you want to adopt one of the cats. Even if you can’t take the cat home, they offer options of adoption-in-place. You just contribute with a monthly fee.
You can visit their Facebook page to see what the cats have been up to.
Here is a video of the sanctuary and the cats. It’s pretty obvious they are all happy and that’s always great to see.
