Having a dog definitely makes your life richer, happier, it fills it with joy and unconditional love. The bond you develop with your dog can’t be really described with words, although we always try. There are, however, small actions that express that feeling and at the same time pay a tribute to our beloved dogs. Sometimes these actions may seem so simple but they are expressive enough to touch a lot of hearts.

Gordon Delacroix, the lead singer of the band Recorders, recently expressed the bond he has with his 15-year old dog with a picture that recreates the beginning of their love. It is actually a very simple detail but it went viral and has brought many tears to many people who, for one reason or another, identify with it.
Gordon grew up in the countryside of Belgium and when he was 14 years old, Birdy entered his life and has been his best friend ever since. But now Birdy has cancer and his life is close to the end. To honor him, Gordon recreated their first picture together in front of his grandmother’s house, standing in the same position and even wearing the same jumper.

The first picture was taken in 2001 when Birdy was just a puppy. Five years ago, he bumped into this picture and after checking his wardrobe, he found the same jumper still there so he thought of redoing it; Birdy was 10 years old and Gordon, 25. The last picture was taken few days ago as a memory of his best friend; in that one we see a 15-year old senior Birdy and a 30-year old Gordon.
Some details are different: the roof in grandma’s house, the tree in the back, Gordon’s hair and of course, Birdy’s appearance. But what remains the same is the love and care, the happiness in their eyes, the joy of closeness and the smile in their faces. It’s priceless. But it’s also sad when you know Birdy’s slowly staring to drift away.
“He could easily be great for another six months, but it’s also possible that he’ll get very sick again soon and this time for the last time (…) It breaks my heart just to think about it, but we’ve had so many great years and adventures together. I’m grateful he was part of my life”

Since Gordon uploaded the picture in Reddit, it has been viewed almost two and a half million times. I’m sure you will understand why.
But this photo is not the only tribute Gordon will have of his best friend. Three years ago, he immortalized Birdy in one of the band’s videos. One day it will bring tears in his eyes but maybe they will be happy tears for the love they shared and the life they got.
