Blacky the cat has already lost two of his 9 lives, after a car accident damaged his spine and a cat fight took his eye but the cat continues to fight on. The ten-year-old kitty is alive today thanks to his owners faith that he would pull through and his persistence to get better. After the car accident, the vets wanted to euthanize Blacky but his owner never gave up on him and today Blacky has amassed an online following of 44, 000 people.
Blacky first lost his eye, when another cat scratched it and the damage caused an ulcer to rupture in his cornea. The veterinarians had no choice but to remove his eye. Then not long after, the unlucky cat was run over by a car that damaged his spine and led to paralysis. Yet, despite the grim outlook at one point, Blacky stayed strong and today he happily rolls around his house and garden in his wheelchair in New Zealand.
Owner Louise Hopkins, reveals that in Blacky’s hour of need, many people reached out to her so now she wants to return the favour. Today Blacky and Hopkins are giving back to the community by doing pet drives for shelters and selling coffee mugs and memorabilia with profits going to struggling families. On Hopkins adds, “I think a lot of people can relate to Blacky and it’s great to see someone a bit different and unique having such a positive impact on other people’s lives. I often have people with disabilities and illnesses themselves say what an inspiration he is to them too.” To learn more about Blacky and his journey visit his Facebook page.
