In what can only be described as a brilliant way to promote their coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio, NBC’s savvy social media team paired American Olympians with Southern California shelter puppies looking for new homes. The campaign was one with a good cause at its core as it raises awareness about rescuing dogs, and reminds the public that you can find most any breed of dog within the confines of shelter walls.
With one look at the photos you’ll see that these puppies were more than willing participants in these photo shoots. They soaked up all the attention, relishing in all the cuddles and kisses. In fact it’s difficult to decipher who was having more fun with the smiles on the faces of the athletes being bold and bright; the laughter and joy all captured on camera for the world to see and share.
Venus Williams, Michael Phelps, Ashton Eaton, Missy Franklin, Ryan Lochte and many other athletes took a little time to relax and enjoy the company of tiny furry friends, for a great cause, prior to embarking on their Olympic journey to Rio. Olympic swimming, Ryan Lochte, appeared to have the most fun in the moment. He loved every moment of it, and even ended up with a lap full of puppies at one point during the photo op.
The end result of pairing puppies with Olympians? Besides a cute factor that is off the charts, every puppy featured in this photos has found their forever home.
