GRACE BAY, Providenciales — Potcake Place has created the ultimate puppy paradise by rescuing stray pups off the street and bringing them to live on a beautiful beach on an island a part of Turks & Caicos. The rescue was founded in 2005 and welcomes island visitors to come to the beach to hang out and play with the pups. When visitors arrive at the beach they pick a puppy they like and then receive a kit filled with food and other supplies to look after the dog while they are there. The rescue introduced this idea as a means to help the puppies to socialize. Of course, if a person falls in love with a puppy, they are welcome to adopt them.
At any given point in time, Potcake Place has 50-70 pups in its care. The dogs are generally a mix of a German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever and/or an English Fox Terrier. Island residents refer to the dogs as Potcakes because they would frequently feed them pots filled with rice and peas.
The organization relies solely on donations to provide the pups with all of the basic necessities they need to survive and thrive, such as food, treats, supplies, medical care and toys. If you plan on visiting the island be warned that you will have to give out a lot of hugs and kisses to the pups. Sounds kind of perfect, doesn’t it?
