ALICANTE, Spain — A faithful Akita has waited six days outside of the Elda General Hospital for her owner’s return. Sandra Iniesta’s parents, rushed her to the hospital last week, as she was in need of an operation for her appendix. The Akita, Maya, came along for the ride, but when Sandra’s parents said it was time to go home, she decided to stay.

Sandra’s parents attempted to lure Maya back into their car with treats but to no avail. Instead, the dog posted up outside of the hospital in a display of true loyalty. Maya’s dad revealed, ““I think she knows what is happening, and she is showing that she can be patient.”

Hospital staff fell in love with the two-year-old dog and posted photos of her online. When Sandra left the hospital on Saturday, she was shocked to learn that Maya had become an internet sensation. Sandra wrote on Facebook, “She just did what she does at home in Barcelona, which is waiting at the door of a place until I return. After days of not seeing my girl Maya, the kiss and happiness at seeing me and her is priceless.”
