MODESTO, Calif. — A young man in his twenties, was struck and killed by a train on Tuesday after his dog ran off onto some train tracks. The man was walking his dog, described as a Boxer or Bull Mastiff, with a woman when they took the dog off leash. The dog bolted towards the tracks when the man noticed a train was fast approaching.
The man jumped and pushed the dog out of the way but was unable to move quick enough to avoid the train himself. The dog avoided injury entirely but sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The train was estimated to be running at 45 mph and despite efforts to stop the train, the conductor was unable to succeed.
The bond between an owner and a dog, often knows no limits and this man sacrificed his own life to ensure the survival of his best friend. The incident took place at noon, when the man was walking along Dry Creek, an area frequently visited by children and people with their pets. This tragedy acts as a reminder, for every dog owner to be careful about where they let their dogs off leash, as dogs can often react unpredictably under varying circumstances.
