Brewster is a 3-year-old Boxer that was found on October 13 curled up in a park and carried to safety by the person who found him. The New York shelter director called Adopt a Boxer Rescue asking for their help since this emaciated dog was only 25.8 lbs.
They took him to the emergency room where he stayed for four days until he was stable enough to go to a foster home and recover. Brewster is still fighting for his life but the staff of the hospital and the staff of the rescue describe him as noble and brave. He behaves as if he didn’t endure horrible neglect for months.

He cuddles, loves other dogs and behaves really well towards the 13-month-old daughter of Dr. Amy Swift of the rescue, who is at the moment his foster human. He still needs several weeks before he can be adopted but he seems to be on the right road to recovery. In only one week he has already gained six pounds and conquered so many hearts.
After days of searching and a reward offered for some information on Brewster’s case, last Monday an arrested was finally made. Anthony Esteves, 25, was the responsible person who neglected Brewster in such a way. He had been depriving him of food and water since the beginning of July— he will be charged with animal cruelty. We can only hope there will be some justice for this adorable Boxer.
If you are interested in adopting Brewster when he is stable enough to go home, you can apply through the Adopt A Boxer Rescue site. To qualify you must live in their coverage area and you should be willing to adopt a different dog in case you are not selected as Brewster’s new family. If you are unable to do this but you still want to help, you can also donate, as his medical bills are really high. For that, you should also visit their website and ask for information on how to do it.
