TEXAS — City Council Member Elzie Clements is might just be one of the most unpopular people in White Settlement, Texas. Clements is council member fighting to have the Browser, a charming Tabby Cat, removed from his home at the town’s public library. Clements is quoted as saying at the meeting “City Hall and City businesses are no place for animals”. Despite the Mayor Ron White’s support it appears that Browser might have to go.
Browser has called the library home for the past five years. He was originally rescued from an over populated shelter to help with the library’s pesky mouse problem. Charming, sweet, and terribly handsome Browser has won over the hearts of many locals that use the library and they’re adamant that this “relocation of the Library Facility Cat” not happen. The library has even taken steps to address any allergy issues, having patrons with allergies call ahead so they can relocate Browser to a safe space while they enjoy the library.
Yet, still Council voted 2-1 that Browser be relocated within 30 days. And though many have stepped forward offering to adopt him, several petitions are on the go to keep Browser right where he is. He is a fixture at the library, and so very adored, and those that sign see no reason to evict him. He provides a great deal of support and love to those that love the written word, and this library is his home. According to Browser’s official facebook page, his title is Chief Library Cat, and the staff it seems will do whatever it takes to keep him there.
A second meeting is planned for July 12th where it’s hoped the town’s council will come to their senses and let Browser stay where he belongs.
