PUERTO RICO — Sometimes a dog knows exactly where to go when they find themselves without a family and love. If they are lucky they will be received with open arms, just like one stray dog in Puerto Rico.
Alone and hungry, Gorgi showed up at a police station in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 2015.
Although the officers were happy that Gorgi was so eager to introduce himself, they were also surprised about how friendly and affectionate he was. He was clearly showing signs of past abuse and neglect and he was extremely malnourished.
“He was in poor condition, malnourished and with apparent signs of abuse,” Sgt. Tony Montesinos tells The Dodo.”He approached frightened and was looking for affection and protection. We gave him food and water that evening and after eating he stayed with us awhile and left.”
He couldn’t stay away very long.
Less than 24 hours later, Gorgi was back. He knew that he was in good hands.
The officers enjoyed Gorgi’s company so much that they all decided together that they would make the police station his new home. They even pooled their money together in order to pay for Gorgi’s first vet appointment.
Since becoming a part of the police family, it was only natural that Gorgi would get his own official title — Station Surveillance Dog. He sleeps a lot while on the job so his title is purely honorary.
Gorgi has given a lot back to the police officers than he realizes. In the time that he’s been a part of the force, he’s helped many of the officer deal with their job stress.
Clearly, it was a match made in heaven and Gorgi will never have to be alone again.
“Everyone loves him,” Montesinos tells The Dodo. “He will have everything he needs for as long as he lives.”
He is the King of the station.
