Mansfield, Texas –A 30-year old Siamese cat just set the new Guinness record for the oldest cat alive. His name is Scooter and he was born March 26, 1986.
He has lived since then with his owner Gail Floyd who has aged next to him. But Scooter is on pretty good shape –considering his age–. His worst health issue was a year and a half ago when he broke his leg. Even though he is ok now, he still needs to go to treatment for that.
Besides that little incident, he is a very playful cat full of energy and life. Even his veterinarian says: “Scooter is quite an amazing cat, with a strong will to live”.
Gail has tried to keep him active since he was a kitten. She has taken him on trips and so far, he has visited 45 of the 50 US states. She says, “He likes to see new places and he likes people” She even got him used to riding on her shoulders so he could go with her anywhere.
Before Scooter, the title of oldest cat alive was held by Cordury, the 26-year old cat of Oregon. But even though Scooter holds the record now, he still has 8 more years to live to break the record of the oldest cat who has ever lived. That record belongs to Creme Puff who lived to be 38 years and 3 days old.

To hold a record, an owner has to submit proof of the cat’s longevity, like videos that show the aging process throughout the years, plus some witness statements.
More and more often we hear stories about cats living longer and longer. As long as they are happy and still enjoying life, it seems like a privilege to be able to take care of one of these senior cats and share a life with them. Maybe they feel cared for and loved and just don’t want to go.
And as for Scooter, we wish him a happy and peaceful life…
