Hulk is the giant pit bull that was bred purely for his large size. While we used to breed dogs for specific functions like hunting or herding, we now breed dogs purely for their looks. This opens a whole other can of worms. Here are four reasons why breeding a giant pit bull is a bad idea.
1. Perpetuating Stereotypes
While there is plenty of footage showing Hulk playing with toddlers, it seems that breeding a jumbo version of a pit bull is purely to capitalize on a pit bull’s stereotyped big and tough looks and then take it to the next level.
2. Big Dogs Have Short Lives
Anyone who has owned a Great Dane knows that large dogs tend to have shorter life spans than smaller dog breeds. Breeding a dog for just its size puts it at risk for a myriad of health issues which can put a dog through unnecessary suffering.
3. Health Issues
Heart disease and joint problems are more common in over-size breeds. They can be painful and cause potentially deadly problems for dogs like Hulk.
When a dog is four times the size of a normal dog, everything costs four times as much. From food to medication.
