When I first discovered Tuna the pig and Jack the dog, I wanted to share their unique story in an effort to help find them their forever home. Finding homes for bonded dog pairs is hard enough, but owning a pig adds additional responsibilities for any animal lover and requires learning how to properly care for one. I am happy to report, however, that the media attention surrounding these two helped find them a forever home within a day of the first story!
The two were considered a special pair when they arrived at Humane Society of North Texas in late June, surrendered by their owner. As they watched the two interact, the Humane Society staff realized that there was no way they could separate them. Tuna, who was estimated to be about 5 months old, frequently groomed and “kissed” Jack, a 3-year-old Dachshund/Beagle mix. Because she was so young, she was very much attached to Jack. They were well taken care of, both having been fixed and vaccinated, and everyone found them to be very friendly. After figuring out how to house them together, the staff set out to find them a home that was willing to take on the two.
It didn’t take long. After reading about them, a special couple came to the shelter, saw them, and fell in love with them. Jack and Tuna went home with their new owners and are about to embark on many new adventures. Happy Tails to all!
