Cats are increasingly popular, so much that many marketing firms are aware that adding a cat to their campaigns equals success. That’s why we see more often cats in publicity just being cats because they don’t even have to do anything special; just their presence calls for views.
Starina Esperanza Silvaz is a two-year-old cat that got signed as a model on the spot by an animal modelling scout in London, who stumbled upon her one day in which her human took her shopping with her. Since then, she has appeared in a fashion add for Vogue China, a sunglasses add for Stella MacCartney, in the world cucumber day campaign of Hendrick’s Gin and in the cats on plane campaign of Thomas Cook airlines.
One of the things that have made her so popular besides her calm personality, is her distinctive pair of eyes – one is blue and the other one is green. Because of that she has often being compared with David Bowie and even called the Meowie model cat. But the comparison is actually not correct. The condition Starina Esperanza has, is most likely heterochromia –in which the animal or person has two different iris colors or a variation of an iris color. In Starina’s case one eye is green and the other one is light blue.
What David Bowie had was a condition called anisocoria, in which the person has pupils of different sizes. David Bowie had his left pupil permanently dilated because of an injury he sustained when he was a teenager. His condition created an illusion of having different colored eyes because the fixed pupil didn’t respond to changes in light.
However it is, Starina Esperanza is a captivating, calm and beautiful cat gaining followers and becoming an internet star. Her human, Sazsa Silvaz from London, says Starina has been for her an emotional support after her mother died of cancer and they have a very special bond. Animals do have those healing powers.
