Some dogs are extremely sociable and love when you have people over. Other ones, not so much. There are many dogs that get really stressed and nervous when there’s a gathering with a lot of people with loud voices and loud music. If only they could have their own room to disconnect… Like Poncho.
Poncho is a 4-year old Chihuahua living in Georgia. His human, Betty McCall –a retired teacher– recently moved to a house that she built. In her project of course, she couldn’t leave Poncho behind so she decided to make him his own little room under the stairwell.
Betty says Poncho is the type of dog that gets really nervous when she has a lot of people over, so she usually has a dog crate to put him in.
When she asked her carpenter to adapt the cupboard under the stairs, she originally pictured a simple space with its own entrance where she can put Poncho in, but little by little she upgraded it until it became a cozy little room with everything that Poncho needs –and even more.
Not only he has his escaping spot where he has water, food, toys and a bed to sleep in –which by the way is an American Girl brass doll bed. He also has a chest of drawers, a lamp and a rug made by Betty’s sister, a tiny sombrero over his bed, a small piano and a miniature painting of dogs playing poker.
According to Betty, Poncho really likes his room. Besides escaping there when she has company or there are loud noises, he sometimes spends the night there.
