AMATRICE, Italy — A cat has miraculously survived being buried under rubble for six days, following the Amatrice earthquake on August 24th. The cat named Joy was pulled from underneath the debris on Monday by rescue officials. The rescue group was combing the area with a bulldozer when they spotted Joy moving in the distance. While the whole town rejoiced that Joy was found alive, no one was happier than her owner Daniela Tursini.
Just days after the devastating quake, Tursini pleaded with officials, “I beg you, find my cat. My house has gone, I’ve lost everything.” Despite spending nearly 150 hours among the debris, Joy came out of the ordeal virtually unharmed. The cat was severely dehydrated, but a veterinarian confirmed that the rest of her was healthy.
Video footage captured the moment that officials pulled Joy to safety and then gave her water. In the video, that cat appears to be in good spirits as she drinks her water. Watch the heartwarming rescue video above.
