POINTE-CLAIRE, Quebec — Business man Niko Goulet-Courtemanche is desperately trying to get his dog back, after his mother dropped his puppy off at a shelter while he was away on a work trip. Courtemanche had left his four-month-old pup, Maya, with his mother, when the puppy chewed up the woman’s glasses and made her angry enough to take her to the shelter. The man’s mother dropped Maya off at the West Island SPCA, who took her without question as the dog was registered to the woman’s address.
Yet, what the shelter did not realize is that the woman had not consulted her son before coming there. When Courtemanche returned home from his business trip, he was shocked to learn that the dog had wound up at the shelter and he immediately went there to try and get her back. However, in the few short days that Maya was there, she had already been adopted.
Now the man is fighting an uphill battle, as he tries to get his beloved puppy back. After reaching out the the family that had adopted Maya to no avail, he has to look into alternative options. The spokesperson for the SPCA revealed that Maya’s new family wants to keep the dog and his only true course of action is to take the case to court. Watch the full news story in the video below.
