HOUSTON— It was only 8 months ago that an obese Daschund arrived at the county Animal shelter after his owner passed away. The dog weighed in at an astounding 38 pounds and was given the nickname ‘Fat Vincent’ due to his stature. Vincent struggled to walk, had high cholesterol and suffered from back problems because of all that extra weight.
When K-9 Angels Rescue in Houston heard of his plight, they knew they had to intervene and help Vincent to reclaim his health. Vincent was placed into foster care with Melissa Anderson, where he was given a strict diet and exercise routine. At first, Anderson got him moving through water aerobics and once the weight stared to come off he began to go on walks.
Fast forward to today and Vincent has now shed 21 pounds and he is able to go for hour long walks six days a week. At 17 pounds, Vincent still has a pound and a half to go to reach his ideal weight. However once he get there he will be ready for his forever home.
