If you are dating a lady that has a dog, here are some handy how-to tips to win both her heart, and the heart of her canine.
1. REMEMBER HER DOG’S NAME
This may seem beyond obvious, but it’s important! It wouldn’t be cool to forget her child’s name; so not remembering her dog’s carries the same weight.
2. DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE “HAIR”
…instead impress her that you come armed with a lint brush. If you want to really make your mark, buy her a miniature one for her purse (FYI those are great for touch ups on the go)
3. MAKE A SPECIAL MEMORY
Have you been dating a while and you are looking to give her something unique, and creative? Copy your favorite pic of her dog (or her and her dog) off her social network, have it printed and frame it, have it etched on a coffee mug or teddy bear, and give it to her “just because”.
4. PLAN A DOG “DAYTE”
We love spending time with you, but we also love spending time with our pooches. So, plan a date for a day (“dayte”) for everyone. Head out for a walk, maybe stop by the local store and pick up a treat for her pal, followed by an evening in with movies.
5. BE UNDERSTANDING
Recognize that pets are family and be there for her when the going gets tough. If her dog’s a senior or has special needs, now is not the time to pout about missing a night out.
6. TAKE INITIATIVE
If her dog needs to go for a potty break, offer to take him/her. If she’s spending the night at your place invest in a set of bowls, a toy or two, and perhaps even a bed for fido to sleep on. It’s little gestures like this that really get noticed.
7. OFFER TO DOG-SIT
If she’s in a pinch or perhaps she planning a girl’s night out and can’t leave her pooch alone for that long, offer to dog-sit. Show that you know what it takes to be a responsible dog owner.
The bottom line: Thoughtfulness goes a long way towards winning the love of her, and her dog.
