Scamp and I just celebrated his 10th birthday, and our 9th year together. I can’t believe so much time has flown since I first adopted him, but here we are. I take any and all chances I get to celebrate him, because he is my best friend and my life would suck without him. Here are a few reasons why I’m celebrating him this National Dog Day.
1. When he makes a friend, he makes a friend for life.
Scamp and his bff, Rigatony Danza, have had a great friendship going for the past four years. That may seem short to us humans, but I’m pretty sure that feels super long to most dogs.
2. He’s always up for an adventure.
Admission time – I’m obsessed with Pokemon Go. Luckily, I’ve got a great “hunting” partner, who willingly tags along in an attempt to “catch them all!” I think his level of amusement has been slightly fading, however, because he just doesn’t respond like he used to when I scream out “SCAMP, there’s a PIKACHU!”
3. He’s great in the car getting to and from those adventures.
If you’ve got a small dog, you know they can sometimes get antsy in the car. Scamp, however, settles into his special bucket-style seat and just enjoys the ride. He doesn’t even mind when I yell out “yellow light – hold on, we’re going!”if
4. He loves a good walk.
I don’t even mind when he has to bark at every single thing that moves even the slightest bit and has to stop and sniff every single rock, tree, bench, and/or spot of grass. Okay, maybe I do, just a little bit.
5. He endures my desire to put funny things on his head.
If Scamp could talk, I’m not so sure I would like what he has to say about the various hats I’ve put on his head over the years. But how can you celebrate such a momentous birthday without party hats?
6. He’s the perfect gentleman for the groomer.
Scamp has long hair and lots of it. Admittedly, I don’t get him groomed as often as I probably should, but when I do, his groomer says he always behaves wonderfully for the process. I am thankful to both of them for this.
7. He doesn’t judge my questionable fashion decisions.
He’s totally judging me. Look at his face.
There’s probably a million reasons I could list here of why my dog makes my life, but I know all dog lovers have their own. Celebrate with your favorite furry friend today!
